Dear Club and League Representatives:
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is updating its quarantine and isolation (COVID) guidelines to align with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. As such, MSYSA’s return-to-play (RTP) guidance has been updated. For reference, MSYSA is still in Phase 5.5 on the RTP Chart.
In brief, people with COVID-19 should now isolate for at least 5 full days, regardless of vaccination status. If they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), they can end isolation but should wear a well-fitting mask around others for an additional 5 days. Please review the CDC’s Quarantine and Isolation Guidelines for more information.
For people who are exposed to COVID-19, CDC also recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days, for those who are unvaccinated or those who are eligible for but have not received their booster. Those who have come into close contact with someone with COVID-19, but who do not need to quarantine per CDC guidelines, should still wear a well-fitting mask around others for 10 days from the date of last exposure. Please review the CDC’s Quarantine and Isolation Guidelines for more information.
Michigan is experiencing high rates of COVID-19 transmission. In areas with substantial or high community transmission, the CDC recommends that everyone (including fully vaccinated individuals) wear a mask in public indoor settings. In areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases, consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.
Currently, MSYSA is not requiring athletes, team officials, referees, or spectators to wear facial coverings during MSYSA affiliated activities. However, according to CDC guidelines, participants should wear a mask for the 10 days following an exposure to COVID-19 (or for the 5 days following isolation), or are encouraged not to participate. Please also be aware that indoor gyms and/or indoor facilities, etc., may be subject now, or in the future, to local health department (LHD) orders/requirements, or have masking policies of their own, that could potentially apply to participants, team officials, referees and/or spectators.
In closing, to limit the spread of COVID-19, MSYSA encourages social distancing of 6 feet between people who do not live in your household when and where possible and maintaining proper hygiene habits by washing hands often and covering coughs/sneezes.
Please continue to monitor our website and social media platforms for updates.
